How do I learn about recalls?

On Behalf of Usera & Snow, P. C. | Sep 2, 2022 | Products Liability

When a product malfunctions or otherwise becomes dangerous, the company will usually issue a recall notice. While these stories often make news headlines, what happens if you do not pay attention to the news? How can you learn about recalls?

According to the United State Department of Transportation, you should check for recalls on government sites at least two times per year. This will help you to stay updated and ensure you do not miss something important that may apply to you.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration database

One place to look is the NHTSA database for recalls. This department will provide information on recalls for the auto industry. It will give you the ability to check using your vehicle’s VIN. The database also includes other auto-related recalls, such as tires or car seats.

Recalls.gov

The most comprehensive way to check for recalls is at Recalls.gov. This website contains comprehensive lists and databases for all consumer products. It stays updated and provides details on what to do if you have a recalled product. You can also sign up for email alerts so that you never miss a recall notice.

Other websites

You can also check the corporate website of the companies you buy from. They will also list recall information there. This may be more difficult because you would have to know the manufacturer and search for the corporate website. It would also be time-consuming. It is usually best to use a government resource first and then go to the corporate website for additional details.

Staying on top of recall information can help you to avoid bad products. If you suffer from a product issue, you can also report the issue at these same sites.
