Account for wet weather to stay safe while driving

On Behalf of Usera & Snow, P. C. | Mar 14, 2019 | Truck Accidents

One thing that Oregon residents can count on is regular rainstorms. The weather isn’t always sunny and dry in this state, which means that drivers have to become familiar with how to drive safely in wet conditions.

Driving a semi in rain isn’t always easy. With less friction on the roadways, it’s easier for these massive trucks to slide and lose control. Drivers need to take a few precautions to stay safe.

One thing they can do is slow down. All drivers should heed this tip since slowing down is a wonderful way to reduce the likelihood of a crash and to reduce the severity of injuries if a crash does occur. Going just a little bit slower can significantly reduce the risk of injuries in any form of collision.

Another thing to do is to leave plenty of room between vehicles. Truck drivers need to leave more space since it will take longer for them to stop. Truck drivers who are not familiar with the area should slow down, leave room and stay focused to be able to respond to skidding or hydroplaning as quickly as possible.

Drivers of all types can follow these tips to stay a little safer when driving in wet weather. With less friction on the roads, you have to make sure you leave more space between yourself and others. If you see trucks on highways or roadways around you, monitor them closely. Pass when you can, but avoid speeding to do so, since the roadways make it harder to slow down or merge without risking losing control.
